I'm back again to chat about stones and minerals. There is beautiful magic and wonder to stones, and i would like to share one of my favorites with you today.
Amethyst....
The February birthstone, the stone of Spirituality and Contentment. The color of Royalty!
It is one of the most common quartz crystals and although it is, it is also one of the most beautiful because of its variants of color. It can be found in different shades of purple, from royal deep purple (its highest grade) called the deep Russian with its red flashes, to soft hues of light pink violet. You can find it in Brazil, Uruguay, South Korea, Austria, Russia, Africa, Canada, and the United States. The Ancient Egyptians used it as a gemstones, it was used in antiquity for intaglio engraving gems.
In the Middle Ages it was considered a symbol of royalty, while Medieval European soldiers wore Amethyst amulets as a protection in battle, in the belief that the gem heals people and keeps them cool-headed. The Gemstone has been found in Anglo Saxon graves in England. Angelican Bishops wear an episcopal ring often set with amethyst. The Tibetans consider the stone sacred to the Buddha and make prayer beads from it. The name comes from the Ancient Greek word Methystos.(intoxicated). A reference to the belief the stone protected its owner from drunkenness.
The ancient Greeks wore the stone and made drinking vessels decorated with the stone to protect themselves from intoxication. Many Greek myths have been attributed to this stone but one thing I know for sure is.... Don't drink and drive even while wearing an amethyst, because while you may look terrific ... You will still be drunk.!
Enjoy the beauty Mother Nature has gifted us and remember... We are spirits of light.. so shine on..., until next time.
Namaste, Nadya
